I woke up at 5:30 in hopes to start my long run today. 10 miles! But it is lightening out. Not too bad but not worth taking the chance. My night class was cancelled for tonight. I was trying to pick up a shift at work but so far no takers. So I may end up running 10 tonight. That will be interesting. I think it is suppose to be humid and icky out. Will keep you posted. For now it is homework, knitting, and maybe going back to bed for a bit.

UPDATE: I ran at 5:20pm today. I told myself that I would be happy if I ran it under 2 hours. I made that goal by 4 minutes. This was a great learning run. I should have brought more water. It was still pretty hot. upper 80's I think. at mile 7.5 ish I finally got to civiliazation and found a gas station and got some more water in the bathroom.

Also, my hair is getting much longer. The ponytail isn't working any more. I'm going to buy a buff as soon as I get off of here. I willprobably buy two. And a commitment skirt.

I love these long runs b/c I get to see so much more. Just 3.5 miles south of me there is so many farms interspersed with housing developments. It is amazing how much has grown around here even in the 2 years that Ihave been coming out here.

Is it harder on the legs to run on gravel/rocks or on the road?

OH and on another side note. People are a little nicer in the afternoon.I had two people yell to me words of encouragement.

All in all I'm happy with my run even though I did a lot of walking...and now my feet hurt!

Way to go on a hot 10 miler! You deserve the fan support you got out there :) I think dirt/gravel roads are easier on the legs overall, but tough on the ankles because the surface is always so unpredictable. I prefer running on pavement, but then again I'm not running at all right now because of a stress fracture that's probably due at least in part to all that pavement pounding...

Yes I do notice that my ankles need to concentrate more when I'm on the gravel. A lot of the times there are holes and stuff. But that is where I need to run when there are cars! That is our shoulders around here in some parts!

Wow April, way to go! I think its really tough to go out late in the day when its been hot all day. You are going to be so well prepared!

I think pavement is harder on the body. I run mostly trails, and prefer them. But with racing, I now make sure that about 1/3 of my miles are on pavement, just to keep my legs in shape for it. Many people have told me that pavement is faster, as well.

Like the title of your blog. It makes me laugh.

Great 10 miler!

How far away are you from the Warren Dunes (about exit 16 in Mich.)?

I thought you might be closer :( I'm going there on Saturday and I am considering some sand running! So closer to Chicago, eh? I'm there a lot, so we'll have to meet up and run next time I'm there.
