I got up at 7 and then went back to bed at 7:30. My sinuses are really messing with me. september is a horrific month for ragweed and what not.

So I closed all the windows and turned on the air. Atleast now all i have is a headache.

I did weights today.

2 planks--one for 45 seconds and one for 30 seconds. I"m going to start doing these every day till I get to 60.

lat pull downs 3 sets of 10-50 lbs

nose breaker-3 sets of 10--24 lbs

dumbell flys on my back--8 lbs in each hand 1 set of 12

50 crunches on exercise ball

There is a full marathon in June that is fairly close to my house. I'm thinking that maybe better to do. I read marathonguide.com and there isn't much of a crowd...I"m not sure if I"m better off with having a bigger crowd or a smaller crowd. Trying to weigh the pros and cons. A lot of the Chicago area races are very crowded and parking is a problem--which is what I don't want to deal with. Take the train to and from there last year was a pain. any who still in the researching a good first marathon process..

Do you have a machine at home that you can use for lat pulldowns, or do you go to a gym? Also, what is a nose breaker?

Good luck on choosing a marathon.

I am so sorry you are not feeling well! My husband must be getting allergies already, too, he made so much noise last night. I only got an hour of sleep!!!

There are pros and cons to both races. I really love the hometown feel of small races, BUT in a marathon I think I like lots of people so there are always people around me keeping me motivated and moving!

I would say that a smaller marathon might be more fun. I liked doing Chicago, but I hear you end up running some extra because of all the weaving. My brother is doing one in Columbus this fall.

There's one in Champaign in May! We could meet up if you do that one! It's a nice race. Not too huge, but still a good size.

Nice weight workout, April. Can I be your coach? Try adding some side planks and back planks into the mix; it'll make your core like a rock in no time. Do the side ones with your lower arm on the floor, balance on the sides of your feet, and put the top hand on your hip. Some bicep curls would be a nice addition too. Did I tell you I used to bodybuild?

So excited to see what marathon your choose! If I have to do it, maybe you have to do it too.

Carolyn--here is a link for nose breakers--http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rm53-o5mdQM It is a more fun way of working your tri's atleast I think so. And yes we have an in home gym for weights. My boyfriend lowered the rack so now I think I will be able to reach the bar for bench press!

Kelli--I feel great on runs and then I get home and walk the dogs or something and it is all over for the rest of the day...until I go to work...at work there are no probs! Probably b/c it is shut air tight!

Tracy--OMG! You just helped me decide! It is the perfect distance and time frame. I maybe bringing my brother--it will be his first time...oh and it is flat...Ooh I'm excited...going to go write up my plan!

Aunt-I got so excited I forgot to reply to your post! OOPs! yes you can be my coach. My friend gave me these exercises. Her and her hubbie are getting into body building. I think she was trying to pick runner friendly exercises. Is side plank on the elbow better than doing it on your hand?

Oh and I wasn't doing biceps b/c she said that is an over worked muscle? Before I was doing hammer curls and reg bi curls.

Tracy--I did just notice that this is probably the most expensive marathons I have looked at 70???

I don't know how the price compares to other smaller ones, but I know Chicago was $110 last year. What are the prices of some of the other ones?

Wholly crap? I never actually looked into Chicago b/c I didn't want to deal with it. (I'm 35 miles and it can take me 2 hours to get home...um I'd rather drive the miles and be less crowded)

I saw one in Michigan for 40 (sounds like they have stations only every 5-6 miles) and I saw another for 50...so the jump to 70 was huge.

But now that I know how much Chicago is 70 doesn't sound so bad...OOH maybe it is an Illinois thing! LOL

I just looked at Indy and it is only 50...so i'm sure it is Illinois sticking it to it's constituents (I grew up in Cook county--home of the corrupt)
