7:45 am 65 degrees-windy-rainy

I had the alarm for 6 but woke up at 5:30 and it was a downpour. I'm not super sure about running in the rain and the dark...sooo I slept in a little hoping to get some daylight. It worked out b/c it only rained a little during the run. Also I got to wear a skirt and short sleeve top. It is such a warm October! I'm sort of interested to see how my November 4 miler race is going to be. Will it be cold? or warm?

Safety question--I run on mostly streets---so I really hate when cars slow down to a halt to ask me a question. Is it rude that I just keep going? If i'm on the sidewalk I have no problem stopping and asnwering but when I'm so close to the car I don't feel comfortable. I feel like if I stop I'm asking to be abducted!

p.s. day 6 of no coke...feeling pretty good actually!

If you don't feel comfortable, don't stop! Your instincts in these matters should be obeyed at all times, in my opinion.

Good job ditching the cokes!!!

I agree with following your instinct. A great book to read is The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker. It is a quick but powerful read.

Where is your 4 miler and what date?

I second that book recommendation. Great book! Also "Tough Target; the Street-Smart Guide to Staying Safe" by J.J. Bittenbinder.

Nice warm weather you got going there!

Regarding the safety question. You're not obligated to stop your run (or walk, or whatever) for anyone, ever. I'm a guy, and I generally won't stop for someone, especially if they're in a car. I think it's rude of them to expect me to, regardless of the safety issue.

Way to go cokeless!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Fri, Oct 30, 2009 at 15:33:03 from 198.241.174.15

I agree. It's best to go with your instincts.

Do people really stop you that often? I think I've only been stopped and asked for directions once when I've been out running.

See, April, I told you one week for the coke and you'd be fine. Very nice!

Tracy--Nove 8th in Hammond Indiana

It is called Fall Frolic

Do I really want to be reading these Fear books? I feel pretty street smart...but don't want to get paranoid!

Carolyn--yes when I run during the day (or if my run runs into the sun being up) I get asked for directions...Or cars slow down almost to a hault b/c they don't want to hit me. When I'm clearly running in the grass. We don't have sidewalks or shoulders where I like to run.

Aunt--I still want coke...just haven't done it yet...I have the urge...but I hae quit before and I just remind myself that if you haven' thad it for a while it tastes gross the first time.
