Perfect day weather wise to go for a run. But my shins were killing me. I might as well of walked the whole darn thing. This wouldn't be so bad if I knew what was causing all of this. The only thing I can think of is that I'm stomping at the beginning of my run sometimes. But how do I stop this? I tried concentrating but then it got worse. I don't sound like a hurd of elephants, but my footfall is louder than usual. ChiRunning says to pretend you are running in sand--then I tend to run on tip toes (which doesn't hurt btw) but I wouldn't be able to keep that up.

I'm going to go shoe shopping tonight b/c I think it is about time for shoes and I would like to get them broken in before the 1/2 in August. Which is another thing I'm worried about!! That if my legs and feet are all crampy during my race! I only run 1-2 races a year and that would be devastating to have a bad race...BLAH! Sorry for the rambling. Happy Running :)

Fronts or backs of shins? Are you able to start your run on a softer surface, like a track or a trail, rather than pavement? If its front of shin (shinsplints), there are several ways to apply tape to the leg that help. If you google Taping for Shinsplints, you will find pictures of how to do it. This has helped many of the high school runners with shin pain. The tape to use, probably available at your running store, is called "Endura". There are two things: 1) a base layer that goes directly on your skin and 2) the actual supportive tape that goes over the base layer. This keeps the tape from gunking up your skin, and it can actually stay put for several days once it is in place.

I'm sorry to hear your struggling. It sounds like auntieem has good advice. I wish I had something that would help you.

Aunt-it is the side of my shin...I dunno--some days I feel like it is real pain and others I don't.

Sno--yes we did talk about this--I suppose I thought if I did some exercises mentally I could tell myself that the pain isn't really there.

So frustrating! I just want to run like a month with out problems!

Oh and Aunt--I suppose I could run in peoples yards--I would feel weird but anything to make it go away! I will try that before tape.
