I put inserts in the shoes. Didn't really notice adifference. Still hurt for the first mile or so. I also did push-ups, abs, and squats before hoping that would loosen things up. Walked the dogs, iced the achilles, took some motrin.

i am not sure if i have mentioned this to you before, but have you ever tried heel/toe walking? it really helps loosen up the lower legs and has helped me a ton in recovering from a stress fracture.

is there where you walk on your heels and then on your toes for 10 steps each. If so...I used to do it before and after every run....I can't say when I stopped but I did start it back up again.

yes, i usually do it to fatigue -- so walk on your heels until your shins can't go one more step, then walk on your calves. hopefully you can find the right mix of things to do so that everything feels normal again.
