JM Yoga. I had a very hard time balancing today. Very cold and windy out today so I'm glad I only have to go from my house to the car to the school. But I have a lot of bags for all the stuff I worked on and ideas I put together while on break.

Oh man I have carpet burn on my elbow from planks. Is this the battle injury of yoga. Like black toes are to running? hahaha

So I got the hubby on board with marathon training. After I got hurt the last time he was so Negative Nancy about it. He still seems reluctant so I think I just have to stay healthy and we will be good. I think he supports halfs b/c I have done 7 and haven't injured myself b/c of them. and the dogs are good with it too. Lu started whining this morning when I didn't wake up right away with the alarm.

Back to a routine. Happy Monday!

I like your goals for the year. I know we said this before, but we should do a 1/2 together. It'll have to be fall (or next spring).

2 with the windchill or 12 degrees without it. I took off my outer sweater after I warmed up a big and tied it around my waist. I think this helped with bum chill. I need to wear short of something on days like this.

I didn't start my watch till later. I swore I heard the beep but who can tell under all these layers. 11:00 AP

I also need to remember to wear emollient on my face that is not covered. If it was windier I would have been in trouble.

26 degrees and 19 with the windchill when I started and 34 degrees with a 30 degree windchill when I ended. I had to keep taking down my buff or putting my gloves back on depending on whether I was in the shade or not. I tried two new things today. I ran 2 and a half laps to get my mileage. I left water at some point where I would be able to get to it as I passed it. I really did not feel like carrying water. But I did carry a little bottle in my pocket. Then I just refilled it.

My SIL who only runs 5k's literally (like doesn't even train for them) left a clif shock block here the last time she stayed with us. So I got to try that after about 6 ish miles. I like those! Much better than Gu! Reminds me of candy and I looooove candy. hahaha.

the last part of my run I suddenly hear some one singing far behind me. He was on a bike and def a weirdo. I was glad he was on the other side of the street. He did say hi which was nice b/c most bikers around here do not. They won't even wave.

here are my splits (notice that my last mile was my fastest)

10:58 AP

10:51, 10:56, 11:18, 10:43, 11:20, 10:55, 11:00, 11:27, 11:02, 10:21, 10:17(last .27)

Yoga Monday

did JM yoga. Skipped the cool down and did Gunnars ab ball exercises. I only went through 2 workouts (you can skip around). I know I only grabbed the 5lb weights but it was still easy. I"m used to JM making me do two things at once. He just had me on the ball doing bicep curls. boring. Maybe I should have skipped around.

Trying to go through some of my videos to keep things interesting on xtraining days.

I will prob walk the dogs in a bit. Lu keeps limping so it will probably be a light day again (she has hip dysplasia and seems to flare up when it is cold, also running around with the boy in the backyard last week didn't help :(

about 1.5 miles in I noticed Garmin was not tracking my miles. I had to guesstimate while running. I knew I was short but jeez! I ran with the dogs when I got back to try to close the back. I used mymyrun to try to get a more exact mileage.(I was supposed to run 5 today)

I'm going to try a reset with the Garmin to try to fix this problem.

weatherbug said it was 30 degrees. I don't think I ever really warmed up.

5 a.m. 30 degrees. Garmin is acting up again. She is now on time out. Took forever to get a signal. After the run I realized it said my AP for 14:00 and it didn't pace my first mile. I did may my run last night just in case. I think my AP was about 11. Pace charts and my RW schedule says to run easy at 11:17.

Am I hurting my speed workouts b/c I'm running my easy runs too fast? My easy runs feel easy, I'm not struggling. But I just wonder if that is why I can't seem to keep up the speed the schedule is asking me for.

From JG on Wed, Jan 11, 2012 at 10:29:01 from 208.54.44.192

Sasha states you should not run anything slower than 10:00 to stimulate improvement. Not sure where or how or why he arrived at this magical number .... But I thought you should read his comments on this blog:

http://KelleyG.fastrunningblog.com/blog--Okay-this-run-really-stunk-nbsp-Lun/09-14-2011.html

good luck!

From JG on Wed, Jan 11, 2012 at 13:10:52 from 208.54.44.143

Personally, I have a hard time believing that running an 11 minute mile is not benficial for you, but thought his post was relevant to your question.

From Scott Wesemann on Wed, Jan 11, 2012 at 17:47:52 from 205.158.160.209

I don't think the pace matters at all. Just do what feels comfortable for you in regards to both and don't worry about a certain pace. And I don't mean get comfortable while doing speeds work. :) Just what works for you.

From april27 on Wed, Jan 11, 2012 at 21:45:59 from 99.188.251.180

Before I reply I'm sorry for the typos. I should prob stop posting at 6 am while trying to do it in a hurry so I can get ready for work.

JG- very interesting. The plan sounds brutal! But I will try the 10 min mile on my runs other than long runs to see of it helps. I mean I have been doing my easy runs slow all these years and my time has improved but I'd like to get better.

Rat-you would say that! I did reset it three times before I left the house. Today it couldn't find a signal!

From rAtTLeTrAp on Wed, Jan 11, 2012 at 22:09:09 from 24.18.125.122

I mean the "super secret" factory default reset. Is that what you did?

From nicole on Thu, Jan 12, 2012 at 17:16:34 from 128.208.244.109

Soft reset didn't help?

From nicole on Thu, Jan 12, 2012 at 17:18:13 from 128.208.244.109

I know nothing about this 10 minute per mile business, but I do know that everything recommended on this blog doesn't always work for everyone (obviously!). Like running 6 days a week, while that would make me so happy, just doesn't seem to be in the cards for me, at least not right now. It ends in injury. So be careful with whatever you do, especially since you seem to be injury-prone as well.

From nicole on Thu, Jan 12, 2012 at 17:19:19 from 128.208.244.109

You might check out the book Run Less, Run Faster, it had some interesting ideas in it. I just finished it and am subscribing to the 3-day-a-week plan at least for the June marathon, and see how it goes.

From april27 on Thu, Jan 12, 2012 at 19:39:39 from 99.188.251.180

Hmmm Rat I pressed both buttons at the same time for 30 seconds I don't know about this super secret.

Nicole- I have thought about this book. I'm doing a RW training for my marathon. It has 3 days of training and that just felt weird. So I added a 4th day that will stay at 3 miles. That seems to work for me. I was doing ok with 5 days when I trained for Madison in 2009. I don't know what I did after that race that started this horrid streak. BUT I feel like I'm making my come back. I will run my easy runs by feel. I won't force myself to run slower if I feel speedier. It would just be nice if I could run faster so that running more miles wouldn't be such an issue with marathon training.

30 day shred level 3. Now I remember why I don't like level 3. Too much time on elbows and knees is not fun. Yes I have a yoga mat but it makes little difference over a basement floor. BLAH~!

The dog walk was nice b/c I have the day off and was able to walk them in the light of day. It has to be 40 degrees. Because of that I"m not going to listen to the weather report anymore. Last nigth they said it was going to be drizzley and 30 degrees. Definately raining or snowing by noon. it is so sunny out I'm tempted to break out my bathing suit and do some yard work.

For the rest of the month I will just wake up at o dark thirty and check the weather and dress accordingly. This time of year is crazy for weather. Sat is supposed to be 38 and sunday in the 50's! What is going on! hahaha

10:18, 9:41, 9:54. Finally got it right on the last mile. hahaha.

So I was running short on distance so I ran up the street a little past my house. I ran in the street to avoid some slush, went back on the side walk and ran a little more, did a quick turn and bam hit the pavement. I'm okay though. I was more worried that I put a hole in my pants. I'm only a little skinned up.

About an hour before I really woke up it was pouring. at 5 it stopped so I thought perfect! I wish I could post a pic of the radar. It was all oranges and reds to my east (all that rain) and to the west is purple and blues. So here comes the snow. I emailed the pic to myself but it hasn't come through yet. 20 degrees--even colder with the windchill. 11:26 AP.

I drove to another town to meet my friend. She isn't marathon training. So she ran the last 6 with me. I was faster for the first 6! What the heck! And I didn't feel like I was pushing it. I felt like I was holding back a lot so I wouldn't poop out with her!

During the first half I was hot! So when I got to my car I took off the merino and put on a tshirt over my other shirt. Then I was cold. I couldn't win!

There is a lot of snow on the ground. A super duper citizen drove past us and sprayed us with slush. I was cold after that and so were my feet. Despite my way cool socks.

here are my splits

10:48, 11:13, 11:03, 11:05, 10:56, 11:36, 11:13, 11:44, 11:13, 10:59, 13:17 (I have no clue what happened here), 12:05, 12:26

I know the last 2 miles she kept having us go around in circles and a lot of it is in town where there are cars and stop lights so lots of stopping and waiting. Not a fan of the asthetics of this run.

My lower back hurts now.

Woke up at 4:30 but didn't make it out the door till 4:50. Temp is weird. I think it was 17 with the windchill. Weatherbug was acting weird. Maybe it wasn't awake yet?

Did some arm circles on my cool down.

10:50 AP This run felt super easy.

Worst Run Ever! but soooo glad I did it.

I felt sinusey last night before bed. So this morning I just kept hitting snooze or reseting my alarm, promising that I would run after work. Which was dumb b/c I was already awake at 2:30! I kept tossing and turning.

Any who afterwork it was 30 degrees and raining pretty hard. This was hard to dress for. I was supposed to be doing intervals but yeah that did not work out very well with my 11:30 AP. I really didn't warm up and feel good until about mile 3. At about mile 2.5 I took off my windbreaker pants and tied them around my waist. There were puddles everywhere. Thank god my smartwools pretty much kept my feet warmish.

Also running at 4:45 at night is not fun! I felt like I was dodging puddles and cars the entire time. I think waking up at 4:30 is much better.

I better remember this run the next time I think it is a good idea to sleep in.

Should have been 14. The wind and cold was just ridic. I had emollient on my face and that still didn't cut the cold off my face. I met up a friend at mile 7. She wanted to do 7 too but she was even tired of it. Every time a car passed us we had to put our arm up so we didn't get smacked with ice. Glad it is over

7am start, 30 degrees, the wind made me make wardrobe changes anytime I turned. Gloves on, gloves off, repeat. Jacket on, Jacket off, repeat. Annoying!

Today I pretended to be a trail runner and brought real food with me. The gu and the shocblocs don't seem to do much for me. But I brought a couple squares that I had leftover from last weekend. I brought a banana and ate it after about an hour of running. I brought almonds and had some of those about 90 minutes after running and I think again after 2 hours. I brought watered down powerade and a water bottle.

I ate 2 eggs at 6 am.

I'm tired but I have had worse runs. And I didn't feel ridiculously hungry. Which usually makes me want to stop running. I did make a few stops to stretch eat, stretch and eat.

I ran through Lake in the Hills and lots of other hilly areas. I planned on doing two loops of 7. But my friends that was going to meet up with me after the second group had her gma die last night so I just wandered my neighborhood. I seriously ran out of streets to run on. I shall have to plan better next time.

I bench pressed 70# 3 sets of 5

Ran/walked a mile in my merrells.

Walked the dogs for a mile.

I don't know that I will ever get back to half marathons again. Right now 5k's and maybe in the spring 10k's are the goal. I just can't see me running more than 3-5 miles right now.

I have been healing and not running for 7 months. Over the last week or so I got the running bug back. I think I needed the break. It was also a very hot summer. I"m excited for the fall.

I didn't sit on the couch all summer. I started lifting weights in February and walk everyday.

You're baaaaack! :) Lifting weights is fun and great for you. No need to worry about mileage right now. Just slowly get back into it and the miles will come back. You can do whatever you set your mind to, so once you decide what you want- Dooooo it!

This is a great race if you are ever in the area. First your run and then you and your family can walk around the zoo for free (just paid for the race). There weren't many animals out but it was still nice to be out and walking around after the race.

I got 3 side stitches. One on each side and one in the middle. They were all up in my diaphragm. My friend and I are both out of running shape so it worked out. We did well for the first 2 miles and ran walked the rest. I was getting some speed thought when I was running. My legs are ready!

Sweet! I've always wanted to do a zoo run. But we have a membership, so what's the point?

From april27 on Sat, Oct 13, 2012 at 10:15:21 from 99.188.251.180

Yeah we live about an hour from the closest zoo so we don't have a membership. Honestly Brookfield has gotten kind of lame from when I was a kid. I LOOOVE the Madison zoo in WI. I hear Lincoln Park is getting lame too. I really enjoyed it when I went there the last time 5 or 6 years ago. Oh well such is life I suppose!

1.5 mile run. This one felt better breathing wise. Thursday was filled with cramps. Today I did feel my achilles pull. So I'm wondering what to do. I have been walking in my merrells consistently for 7 months now. Now I want to run in them (and I did today). I don't want to go back to having an inflamed achilles and hurt IT band. Is there another shoe I can wear that is not as cushiony as my mizuno's?

I should also say that when I got those injuries I was wearing my cushy mizunos. So I know I don't want to go back to that.
