5 a.m. 30 degrees. Garmin is acting up again. She is now on time out. Took forever to get a signal. After the run I realized it said my AP for 14:00 and it didn't pace my first mile. I did may my run last night just in case. I think my AP was about 11. Pace charts and my RW schedule says to run easy at 11:17.

Am I hurting my speed workouts b/c I'm running my easy runs too fast? My easy runs feel easy, I'm not struggling. But I just wonder if that is why I can't seem to keep up the speed the schedule is asking me for.

Have you tried "resetting" your Garmin?

From JG on Wed, Jan 11, 2012 at 10:29:01 from 208.54.44.192

Sasha states you should not run anything slower than 10:00 to stimulate improvement. Not sure where or how or why he arrived at this magical number .... But I thought you should read his comments on this blog:

good luck!

Yeah, step it up sister :)

Personally, I have a hard time believing that running an 11 minute mile is not benficial for you, but thought his post was relevant to your question.

I don't think the pace matters at all. Just do what feels comfortable for you in regards to both and don't worry about a certain pace. And I don't mean get comfortable while doing speeds work. :) Just what works for you.

Before I reply I'm sorry for the typos. I should prob stop posting at 6 am while trying to do it in a hurry so I can get ready for work.

JG- very interesting. The plan sounds brutal! But I will try the 10 min mile on my runs other than long runs to see of it helps. I mean I have been doing my easy runs slow all these years and my time has improved but I'd like to get better.

Rat-you would say that! I did reset it three times before I left the house. Today it couldn't find a signal!

I mean the "super secret" factory default reset. Is that what you did?

From nicole on Thu, Jan 12, 2012 at 17:16:34 from 128.208.244.109

Soft reset didn't help?

From nicole on Thu, Jan 12, 2012 at 17:18:13 from 128.208.244.109

I know nothing about this 10 minute per mile business, but I do know that everything recommended on this blog doesn't always work for everyone (obviously!). Like running 6 days a week, while that would make me so happy, just doesn't seem to be in the cards for me, at least not right now. It ends in injury. So be careful with whatever you do, especially since you seem to be injury-prone as well.

You might check out the book Run Less, Run Faster, it had some interesting ideas in it. I just finished it and am subscribing to the 3-day-a-week plan at least for the June marathon, and see how it goes.

Hmmm Rat I pressed both buttons at the same time for 30 seconds I don't know about this super secret.

Nicole- I have thought about this book. I'm doing a RW training for my marathon. It has 3 days of training and that just felt weird. So I added a 4th day that will stay at 3 miles. That seems to work for me. I was doing ok with 5 days when I trained for Madison in 2009. I don't know what I did after that race that started this horrid streak. BUT I feel like I'm making my come back. I will run my easy runs by feel. I won't force myself to run slower if I feel speedier. It would just be nice if I could run faster so that running more miles wouldn't be such an issue with marathon training.
