WEll I wanted to run today. The cable guy was suppose to come between 8 and 10...it is now 1230 and he still isn't here. There was a automatic computer call that called to say he would be late. But that was at 9:30. I'm' thinking about running after I get out of work tonight. It won't be until about 11...but I think that may be good for me...

Update: Decided to just cancel on the phone/cable guy at 2pm. So I went out....super bad shin pain today. I'm going to give in and say I have shin splints...going to ice and motrin and continue to eat sad depressing good and bad foods until i need to cook dinner and go to work...sigh

So I put on my old running shoes and took the dogs for a walk...I did some running spirts...and guess what? no shin pain. Gotta be the shoes then right? Well I emailed LRS to see if I can still return my shoes...I may have to find the receipt... I am now looking online to find my shoes...roadrunner doesn't have my size...I want Brooks Defyance if you online gooroos find them...size 10...It is so weird b/c I tried on the new Brooks Defyance 2 at the store and I really didn't like them. My old ones I ended up putting some old soles in them from my new balance shoes and that worked out great...go figure...stupid weird feet that i have!

I am going to try night running afterwork today. It is weird I use to be a morning person and now with working after 4 for the last 9 months I wake up more in the afternoon time...I"m wide awake afterwork. I hope working out an hour or so before bed does not aversely effect me...Oh well I will try it anyway!

update: I found some online...yippee!

Goal: test my theory on my old verses new shoes...

It worked...no shin pain what so ever! A little knee pain which was the entire reason that I started this new shoe voyage...

any who...ran in the rain...which reminds me of training last year for the 1/2 and then it rained the entire time during the 1/2...so brings back really good memories...this run was good for my mental state...I averaged at a 10:12 pace.

Warning venting about LRS...

I went to the LRS to return the second pair of shoes that I bought from them. Now everyone agreed that it was probably the shoes that were causing the pains in my legs...Since the pain started when I started changing shoes. I went up to the lady that I bought the shoes from and she said she had to help the other people and to just wait a minute...well she helped them and then went off some where and another employee came out...

I think they did a bait and switch on me. She came right up to me and I told her the story and blah blah...and asked I could return them (and I was prepared to eat the money and just deal with it b/c i knew it was close to a month) but she starts blah blah blahing about how I was fitted for the right shoes and that shoes don't cause shin pain and she wouldn't listen to a word I said. Even though she asked when the pain started I said it started when I got the new shoes. I said I had a wonderful pain free run yesterday in my old shoes. She still went on her rant about how it must be the way i'm running.

Mind you I never accused any one of fitting me poorly or incorrectly. I simply said I wanted to stay in my old shoes.

THEN she asks me why don't i try on the Brooks they have. I said I did and I didn't like them. She said they didn't change anything about the fit just the color. This infuriated me, but i kept my cool and just listened politely as she told me more about the shoes (and that the goo has a shelf life and that my shoes would probably poop out on me sooner than normal etc etc) and that I should go to physical therapy and go see these doctors that come to the 10 mile clinic (i met them and got their card, but they told me to come in so they could do some tests).

And that is all fine and good--but I haven't had shin pain in 10 years and now all of a sudden my gait is off and that is causing shin pain? No i think it is my gait in those shoes...And plus what they are going to tell me hey you got this problem and this give me 200 bucks? or whatever b/c I do not have insurance...or they want me to come in for PT. Why are the answers always oh take meds, or oh go to PT. GRRRRR

I really feel like I was ambushed today. Like the regular sales lady I deal with told the other to take care of me. I tell ya I'll go to dicks or to the other running store 50 miles away before I go there again. After this 10 mile race is over (next sat) I'm done with them. I just think the whole thing was just soooo crappy...

End RANT

I went to the forest preserve trail after I picked up dog meds at the vet. I have always said I would run there everytime I pass it by to go to the vet. Today I went prepared.

So I took many walk breaks out so that maybe why my Nike + said i ran 2.5 our and only 2.3 back in? I didn't stop running the entire time on the leg back.

Pace 9:55...good run...pain free

Goal: run in new old shoes

10:23 pace

Pain still there..

BUT I started reading chi running...I'm hoping that will help. I just do not understand how in Jan I was in Brooks and I got new shoes b/c my knees were starting to ache...and then i started getting shin pain...so I blamed the shoes. could my form have changed as a result of the different shoes? I just want to get back to normal again...I miss my old go run 7 miles for fun self...:(

And another question...so I haven't been able to be great at keeping up with my miles like I would like...but I have a race a week from today and it is a10 miler. Any advice? Should I skip it? What kind of mileage should I put in this week?

Did some cross training.

It is night time and I am looking at runnersworld even though now I don't like it much but it worked for me when I trained for my 1/2 last year...Well I want a running plan b/c that seems to help me. But my problem is that runnersworld puts in 2 mile runs...and honestly I don't like to run less than 3 miles b/c it takes me so long to get warmed up that really I like 5 miles now. So my question is...is there another online source that will do the work for me and set up a mileage plan for me?

I saw Galloway's plan but it looks like he has most days scheduled for amount of time to run and then there is one run a week that has actual mileage...maybe I"m reading it wrong? Could this be more beneficial rather than concentrating on mileage ran per week?

New plan--run five miles 3-4 times a week and then gradually add to that.

Weather is gorgeous..it is now 60 but i think when i went for my run it was 45...still awesome! I love the sun!

I had some pain but went away after about 3 miles...I got lost on the way back and lucky for me some old guys on bikes helped me find my way. I just missed my turn. I space out on runs so If i don't really pay attention I get lost. Oh and before you tease me I have not lived here my whole life. Just for a year...so I think I am still allowed to get lost. LOL

Now the sensor batter in the shoe part of the Nike + is dying...guess it is someone telling me to get a Garmin. LOL..

I was contemplating running today. After hacking a lot while doing yoga for only 15 minutes I decided against it.

I have worked in the bar a lot this week, so I'm wondering if my throat went south last night because of the bar smoke. At least my next two shifts are server shifts...Maybe I can get a run in tomorrow that does not involve me losing a lung!

So glad I found someone to take my shift for tonight...I feel like utter butthole...I have been laying here trying to catch up with some runner's reading but I keep falling asleep...LOL

I"m hoping that tomorrow I will miraculously feel better--one b/c i need to work and 2 b/c I want to run...and walk my dogs...they are feeling super antsy!

Pace 11:30....it is really hot...soo glad i brought water...note to self up the anty on drinking a lot more water!

i have been reading about Chi Running...I can't tell if I'm slanting forward...I feel like my butt is sticking out and my chest is forward...and i feel like when i concentrate on the form I run a little easier and maybe even faster...but then i forget about form. I know it is a process and will take me a while to change my form...but I don't run with anyone..so how can I tell if i have the tilt going on?

Also--as a post run fuel does a powerade count? or chocolate milk. Sometimes I don't feel like eating until 45 minutes to an hour after I run...just curious

Happy Running!

I love the 40's for running...Today I didn't eat breakfast before I went out. I have lots to do so I thought I would experiment with that a bit. I had some powerade and then went out the door.

At about the 30 minute mark I got some stitches right up in the middle of my rib cage...did not feel so good...but they went away after a little bit of walking (only one walk breaktoday)

I really focued on the chi running. I hope to get more of the reading done today.

Happy Sunday running!

7am

Goal: Practive more Chirunning and get use to the heat...It was 68 when i started my run and it ended at 71...23mph winds on the leg out...and by the end of the run I wish I had some wind hitting me...I felt so hot! Maybe I should wake up earlier!

it is also day two of eating after my run instead of before...so far so good...I did end up getting a stitch again at around the same time as yesterday...

Pace 10:45

And on another note--I start school again next week. Lucky for me I only have two days a week where I start at 930. (last semester i started at 8) So possibly I could get a run in before school now...It helps also that this semester I will not be working during the week so I could go to bed early in order to wake up a little earlier...I'm not excited aboutt he lack of money this new schedule will bring but I'm sure I will have more time for my 21 credits, running, time with my dogs, and my boyfriend...

Well off to walking the dogs...happy running!

9:30 am- Pace 9:52

I woke up a little late today...So I ate breakfast and waited an hour...I had no problems with this as far as stomach trouble.

Today I was trying to work on Chi running...I have always had a week back so it was kinda bothering me today. Not hurting just feels week. i have been doing super mans and ab work trying to strengthen it but as I remember even doing 300 sit ups a day did not help. I have horrible posture. I try to stand and walk tall at work but that kills me...

Any who I thought I would try this whole fast mile thing. this run is a 1.5 out and 1.5 ish back. So on the last mile I sped up. I would say the last few blocks of the run I was in all out sprint. Good thing it is down hill. I about died but feel okay. Also the last 1.5 mile was 1 minute faster than the first.
