What a nice day out. It is  soooo windy today but I love it b/c it isn't a cold wind. Nice and comfy. 34 mph winds says weather channel at 65 degrees. My last mile was a little slower than the first 3 but add in wind and a hill and it is bound to effect you.

Also the first two miles stunk. I had a cramp and had to go to the bathroom. But after that i felt pretty okay. I thought I was being a slug but turns out I was running around 10 min miles. Which isn't bad for feeling like a slug.

So I did some reflecting on why I'm so blah about running. I"m on another forum and all th they do is talk abou thow much it hurts to run or why didn't run etc.

Last summer I read some wonderful running books and I ran  A LOT. So I looked up so more books to read. If you have a fav blog or article that is inspirational that would be nice.

Lately I have been reading historical fiction and that can be depressing but very interesting. I just through a book that was about Nazi Germany. Very good book but sad too.

This weekend they have a FREE four mile race that starts at 6pm on that same trail i ran on last weekend. If I run it I'm running in the back of the pack b/c the trails were just so narrow and people were too competitive...I swear some just wanted to knock me over!

When you find it, pass some of that motivation my way.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Wed, Oct 27, 2010 at 19:31:46 from 72.102.178.87

That's a great pace for such a windy day! Good for you! You shouldn't have any trouble running that race. Don't you dare pass up a free race!

When I need inspiration I watch running movies or read race reports by any of the great runners/writers on this blog.

My favorite running movies: Saint Ralph, Run Fatboy Run, Prefontaine, Without Limits, Spirit of the Marathon.

Tracy-I will bottle up just a smidge of it for you and send it your way.

Rat--i'm scared of running the trails in the dark! It will def be a last minute decision.

I have seen Spirit of the Marathon. I will looking into the others. maybe they will be at the library too!

Headlamps are cheap. It sounds like fun to me.

I have a headlamp! It does sound like fun. But I don't see too well in the dark on straight pavement!

Rat and I have all the same favorite movies! Except I LOVE Forrest Gump also.

Some great historical fiction I have read lately: The Lemon Tree by Sandy Tolan, and The Invisible Bridge by I forget who. Both are great history and perspective on WWII era from Jews in different parts of the world.

Saucony makes a GREAT jacket with a little LED light on the sleeve! Flashes. AND,, plugs into your USB port when it needs charging!

Rat- I watched all of them except for Without Exceptions--I couldn't find it amongst all the 'w's at the library (ridiculous filing system)

Aunt thanks for the recommendations. The book i read was called The Book Thief.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Fri, Oct 29, 2010 at 15:43:26 from 76.121.76.165

You watched them all already?

OK, how about some reviews. I think Saint Ralph is sort of like Napoleon Dynamite meets Prefontaine. Definitely my favorite!

I watched Spirit of the Marathon and Tron with my son last night.

auntieem - You have great taste in movies :)

I love Forrest Gump too, but that one never really inspired me to run. I think the Prefontaine movies are best for that.

I watched Spirit of the Marathon last year. I thought that was okay.

I loved Saint Ralph--I hate to say it but when he was running it made me tear up a bit. But tying a rope around his waist as his buddy rode his bike cracked me up. Now I just have to find a friend that will do that for me so I can get faster and win Boston..LOL

And I agree def Napolean Dynamite like. I also liked the voice over (I forget the book he was reading) where it said that the marathon doesn't come without pain or hardship. Something like that.

Prefontaine I liked too b/c I never think of great athletes having doubt in themselves. I have lots of doubts in myself. Plus I related to him b/c of all his not being able to play sports in school. He was too short. But I lacked hand eye coordination.

Also Run Fat boy Run was pretty funny too. I loved how the guy tripped him but wasn't hurt at all in the end but still ended up not running the marathon.

I also picked up Precious--very sad movie. Nothing to do with running...but having to do with a girl that endured a lot.

The book in Saint Ralph was Secrets to Marathon Success by Dennis Longboat. There were so many great quotes in that movie. Every time I watch it, I like it more.
