No, I will not be running the Marathon next month. I'm either not going to run or I'm going to try to switch to the 1/2. My ITB hurts and it started hurting at mile 4. And I didn't meet my time goal of under 2 hours :(

But let me talk about the things I did like about this race. I got an awesome hat, awesome matching tech long sleeve shirt and it was very organized at the packet pickup. And the medal is freaking cool! My fiancee wants to steal it! It looks kinda like the motor speedway and the necklace part is checkered. My brother was there with me at the start and left me! He finished 1:57.

What I did not like was the amount of people that were there. OMG! I wanted to die. I felt like I was in a grocery store. Indy had a good system for the corrals. Your corral was actually placed on your running number...BUT you have to tell the truth when signing up. I'm sorry there is no way some of these walkers should have been ahead of me. So mad. Then some runners would slowly cut you off. I"m like hello! Just do it quick and go away so I don't step all over your heals!

I was really surprised with the amount of walkers. I"m mean good for them. But stay in the back! The indy mini does a lap around the 500 race track. OMG that was the longest 2.5 miles of my life. It is basically the mid point by the time you get there. I got some cool pics (I sorta gave up on my goal once my ITB started to hurt and people continuted to walk around me) with my camera phone. I just have to send them to someone so they can email them to me(I don't have a cord to connect my phone to the computer) Coming out of the track was a bottle neck b/c they had more water and we all had to funnel into a smaller street...kinda not cool again with the walkers!

There were lots of water stations! Sooo many! I swear they were more frequent than every mile.

Oh did I mention it was sooooo windy! and we didn't get to the start line till about 20 minutes after the first corral! The clock at mile one said 28 minutes! OMG!

Well I'm going to go to sleep and enjoy the rest of the weekend and try to decide what to do about my training for the rest of the month. I hope my brother still runs the full. I would love to cheer him on...but I just won't make it.

I didn't know if I put my stats in the frb part right so here they are

For a race-in-pain, you did really well!!!! Don't feel bad at all about going to plan B (re the marathon). This is *for you*, for *fun*! Take what you want and leave the rest!

Thanks for the great race report and enjoy your recovery!

Way to go! You finished and that makes you a winner. It sounds like it was an awesome race and I want to steal your medal too! The one from Eugene is huge and it just looks like a giant penny :(

I'm sure you can switch the half if you don't feel ready for the full coming up. Make sure you take a break to let that ITB calm down.

Congratulations on completing another half marathon. Sounds like a huge event too. Enjoy some well deserved relaxation this weekend.

I'm glad you finished despite the pain (and the annoyance of other runners/walkers). I think big races are annoying.

It sounds like you're being smart about backing off on the marathon. Hopefully you can switch to the 1/2. Now that summer is fast approaching, we'll have to meet up for some running. I'm thinking about doing a 5K in Oak Park (for colon cancer research) on May 23, but I have to figure out what time it is. You planning on being at your ps that weekend?

Thanks all!

I know I keep wanting to do the full b/c I said I would and for my bro. But the bottom line is that would just be dumb. I think he will understand. And then for the rest of the summer I will bike and walk and ellip with some running. I REALLY want to run this other 1/2 in september and then this cool course in october. Both things I can do with my bro b/c I know he wants to do them.

How much time should I give myself in order to still do the 1/2? I think for long runs I will only go up to 10 for this month...I may just go back to every other day runs and ellips inbetween. What do you think? In the mean time I will look for strength execises (or shoudl I wait to do those until after it is feeling better?)

I have some freeze muscle stuff on it from the race..i love it...still can't really bend it with out wincing...blah!

Oh and I thought it hurt during the race...oh no once I got cold and stopped running that was much worse...glad I didn't walk!

Exactly a 10 min. avg! Great job. Sorry about the ITB, but hey, you got beat by Paul. He's beat me twice. You've only lost to him once.

I always try to look on the bright side.

It sounds like that was a really tough race, especially with the crowds. Great job pushing through and finishing it despite obstacles.

I think you're smart to back off from the full marathon. I'm sorry I can't give you much advice about the ITB, but taking it easy and cross-training is probably in order.
